HOW TO BECOME A HOST FAMILY

1. Complete and submit the registration form on-line or simply e-mail the Host a Child Project and request a Host Family Information Packet.

You will receive a Host Family Information Packet with program information, application and instructions.  You will be assigned to one of our Host a Child Program Coordinators.

2.   Review program information and call or email with any questions.  Submit the application.

No fee for application and no obligation to host .  Our staff will contact you again after receiving your completed application.

3.  Complete Background checks and arrange for a "mini-home study."

You need to do so only if you do not have current, completed home study.  You can contact a Home Study Agency in your state to assist you with obtaining criminal and child abuse background checks.  At the same time, you can request a "mini-home study" or "pre-hosting assessment."  We suggest that you go ahead and get started on the full home study process because you have probably already decided that you want to be an adoptive parent.  Your Hosting Program Coordinator will assist you in locating and working with the Home Study Agency in your state.  You can also search for a Home Study Agency in your state on the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse web site: http://www.childwelfare.gov

We also ask you to send a photograph of your family.

4. Complete and Send Host Family Packet to your Coordinator.

After your Host Family Packet has been received, and after we have received information about and photos of the children, your Coordinator will send information about the children on to you. The Host a Child Host Coordinator will work with you to match a child with your family for hosting.  Please remember that we will make the final matching decision and that our decisions are always made with the best interest of the child in mind.  We will also send you educational material and detailed information about the program procedures.

5. Get ready

Make your plans for any travel to meet your child, meet some members of your local Russian-speaking communities, plan fun family activities and anticipate some quiet time with your hosted child.  It's not only an adventure for the children - you and your family will be in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience as well.

Please fill in the on-line registration form for more information.
