Winter 2006 Hosting Program
January 22, 2007 Update
How does the time fly by so quickly? It seems we were just holding our breath, waiting for the children to arrive, and now they have already come and gone. Time is a funny thing - it either crawls by or speeds past before you know it.
The children finally arrived from Ukraine at JFK Airport on December 22 - just in time to get home for Christmas. The host families picked up their children at the airport and then flew or drove to their homes in Texas, New York, Massachusetts, Colorado, Utah and several other states. A large group of children flew to Michigan, with their escorts, into the waiting arms of their host parents in Detroit.
Over the next three weeks, the children and families kept busy with holiday activities and countless other fun events. They also spent time just hanging around the house, enjoying the family feeling. All too soon, it was time to pack the children up for their return trip on January 12. The airport is always a tearful place on leaving day and this time was no exception. It is clear the parents and children developed warm, affectionate feelings for one another during the visit and saying goodbye was a most difficult thing to do.
Final words from the hosting families - "Bring the children back as fast as you can!!"
