Winter 2006 Hosting Program

December 11, 2006 Update

Everything is set for the arrival of 24 children and their escorts from Ukraine on December 22, 2006.  The host families are eagerly planning and preparing fro the children's visits.  Excitement and a bit of anxiety are the order of the day for the host parents.  But, the time will fly by - as it always does - and the children will be walking off that plane and into the welcoming embrace of our wonderful hosting families very soon.  We will post updates to this site during the three weeks the children are here.  We know everyone loves to share in the experience of the children and families.  Check the site often.  Thank you.

Thank you for considering the Adopt a Miracle Winter 2006 Hosting Program for Eastern European orphans. Adopt a Miracle is a Colorado-licensed, private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) adoption agency specializing in international adoptions and international hosting programs. Our organization also provides home studies, adoptive parent training and post-adoption services to residents of Colorado. Each of our programs is unique and suits each family differently. Our hosting program is designed for families who are interested in adoption. You can host a child for two or three weeks with the hope that you will decide to adopt the child. We are planning to bring 24 children from an Eastern European country to the United States this winter. They will arrive between before Christmas and stay until after the New Year, approximately 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. The exact dates are still being decided. You will find a summary of the Winter 2006 Hosting Program below. Please call or email with any questions. We are here to guide you through a successfule hosting experience.

Here are some answers to questions you may have about our Hosting Program:

Children participating in the hosting program have been identified as available, or will soon be available, for international adoption. However, this information cannot be absolutely guaranteed due to the difficulty of verifying such information in foreign countries.

Children do not speak English. You will be assigned to a translator, who will be available by phone to assist you.

All children will have medical insurance.

You may pick up your child at JFK Airport in New York City and take him/her back to your home.

Your Host Family Assessment should be completed by the time your host child arrives in the U.S. Normally it takes 1-2 months to complete a hosting home study. If you decide to host a child, we will guide you though all documents you need for hosting or adopting.

You can host one or two children at the same time. It is possible to adopt two unrelated children at the same time but please be aware that the decision will be made by the country's authorities at the time you travel to the country.

Host Families are required to host an escort for at least part of the hosting period.

Two parent families and single women with required documents are eligible to adopt or host. The number of biological children in your home doesn't affect the process. There are no strict age requirements.

If you have an adoption agreement with us for adoption and then decide not to adopt the child you hosted, you can still adopt another child from any country where we work.

Adopt a Miracle can never guarantee you will be able to adopt the child you host. We can guarantee that we will do everything within our control to assist you in completing the adoption.

We will make the decision about which child to place in your home approximately one month before the children arrive in the United States. Our decision is always based first on the needs of the child and on what is in the child’s best interest. Families will be considered in the order in which the complete hosting application packet arrives at our office. We will look at your preferences for children and then at your gender/age preference and your location when making our decision.

The cost to hosting families this year is $2500. In addition, Host Families are responsible for the cost of any travel for the child within the United States. We also need families to host the children’s escorts and translators. We are working on obtaining sponsorship funds for the hosting program to reduce the cost to families.

You will need to get started on your Host Family Assessment as soon as possible. By the date of hosting, you must have criminal and child abuse background checks completed and a home visit from a social worker from a licensed home adoption agency in your state. We can assist you in locating an agency and will work with your social worker on the requirements.

Please review the information we have provided. Go ahead and submit an application for hosting. It does not place you under any obligation. Your application simply lets us know that you are seriously interested in hosting and eventual adoption. Call or email with any questions. We would be happy to talk with you further.

We look forward to hearing from you.
