WINTER 2005 - 2006 HOSTING PROGRAM

After months of anticipation, the Host Families waited at the airport to meet the children who would be staying with them for the next few weeks.  The children were, of course, exhausted after travelling 30 hours or more.  But they were also "wired" with their own anticipation as they shyly met their Host Families.  After a bit of getting acquainted time and translated greetings, the children left with their families for the final leg of their travel.  They were heading "home," with virtual strangers, ready for their American adventure. 

It's hard to imagine - children, just six to twelve years old, different language, different culture, different life...  What courage it must have taken for them to ride away with our families.  But over the next few days, we heard from all the Host Parents about the transition the children had made.  A few zigs and zags along the way but within a few days, everyone seemed to be into the rhythm.
